The phone/console comparison doesn't quite hold. Consoles are optional gaming devices; phones are essential general-purpose computers that people rely on for communication, work, and banking.
The closest analogy is PC vs. phone. PCs let you install any storefront you want — Steam, Epic, GOG. That's the freedom Epic argues should exist on mobile too.
